Rapidlogger Products - Returns Flow Sensor

The Rapidlogger returns flow sensor is a self-contained system for monitoring and recording the returns flow from a well. It mounts in the return flow line (the mud flow line) and measures the flow level and rate coming back from the hole, so a loss or a gain shows up before it reaches the pits. It was designed from the ground up for continuous use in extremely hot or cold environments without failure.

Who uses it

Drilling and workover contractors who want flow-out alongside flow-in and pit volume on the rig record, well-control focused operators, and sludge and slurry pumping services that need a rugged flow and volume record. The sensor is part of the Rapidlogger EDR and drilling rig monitoring systems and can also be used with other data acquisition systems.

Applications

Drilling applications:

In the drilling application the returns flow sensor monitors the flow level in the return flow mud line. The system can monitor, display and record wellhead returns flow rate, return flow volume, temperature and H2S level. Compared with the pump rate from the stroke counters and the active pit volume, the returns flow gives the earliest indication of a kick or lost circulation.

Sludge pumping applications:

For sludge and slurry pumping the sensor and system can be supplied with pH and temperature sensors in addition to flow, and measure the flow rate and volume pumped.
