Rapidlogger for Wireline and Slickline Units

The Rapidlogger for wireline and slickline is a self-contained job monitoring and recording system for slickline, braided-line, electric-line and perforating units. It records depth, line speed, line tension and wellhead pressure, corrects the depth for line stretch and thermal expansion, and can shut down the winch on an over-pull. The unit runs and records on its own; a PC with RapidVu adds live traces and the job report.

Who uses it

Slickline and wireline contractors who need a depth and tension record for every run, perforating crews, and unit builders fitting instrumentation in the cab. The package is compact enough for the control cab of a wireline, slickline or coiled tubing truck, and the same unit can be switched to the coiled tubing or cementing mode.

What it measures

In the slickline mode the screen shows depth, speed, tension and wellhead pressure; up to six parameters can be shown and more can be recorded to the SD card. The standard system has 4 analog channels, 2 frequency channels, 2 high-current solid-state relay outputs and 1 analog output, and more channels can be added as required.

Safety functions

The unit can shut down the wireline or slickline winch through a solenoid valve when the line tension exceeds an over-pull limit, and the software latching relay function (Tech Note 61) holds the trip until it is acknowledged.

How it works

The Rapidlogger panel runs a real-time embedded operating system on a rugged high-speed microprocessor, so it turns on instantly and is crash proof. An equipment operator can use it without training. Every job is written to removable MMC/SD flash memory as a plain text file, can be copied to a USB stick on the unit or downloaded over the network, and opens in Excel. The internal memory holds many months of job data.

Software

RapidVu runs on a PC, shows real-time depth, tension and pressure traces and dials, replays recorded jobs and prepares the job report. A sample slickline job file and report are on the downloads page for trying the software.
